I’m participating in the Tolkien Committee’s art auction to help raise funds for Tumbl-Con USA! The auction is being held April 28 – May 4 on their livejournal page.

Reminder that bidding is live now, starting at $5. Come on, guys: Tolkien art for grabs.

WHICH TOLKIEN CHARACTER DESERVES MORE ATTENTION AND WHY?

 cearTom Bombadil!

‘With another hop and a bound there came into view a man, or so it seemed. At any rate he was too large and heavy for a hobbit, if not quite tall enough for one of the Big People, though he made noise enough for one, stumping along with great yellow boots on his thick legs, and charging through grass and rushes like a cow going down to drink.’

First time this happened to my art (that I know of): repost without credit. Because it’s so difficult to look up the source.

It’s auction time yet again: I’m participating in the Tolkien Committee’s art auction to help raise funds for Tumbl-Con USA! The auction is being held April 28 – May 4 on their livejournal page.

You’ll be bidding to commission a drawing or painting from me.

Edit: Now with direct link to the livejournal page. Bidding starts Sunday.

Walking Tree Publishers has just released a new book featuring one of my illustrations on the cover: Tolkien’s Poetry, edited by Julian Eilmann and Allan Turner. As with all WTP publications, it’s well worth a read.

The cover illustration is entitled “Frodo’s dream of Eärendil”

For nine years Túrin dwelt in Thingol’s halls, and during that time his grief grew less; for messengers at at times to Hithlum, and returning they brought better tidings of Morwen and Nienor. But there came a day when the messengers did not return out of the north, and Thingol would send no more. Then Túrin was filled with fear for his mother and his sister, and in grimness of heart he went before the King and asked for mail and sword.

— J.R.R. Tolkien, The Silmarillion, “Of Túrin Turambar”

Gosh, someone dug out one of my old watercolours. That one was done in 1998 … Time for a revisiting of that story, I guess.

Tolkien art

Diealtehexe,

I hope you don’t mind me replying this way to your kind message, but I my replies never reach their recipient for some reason but get eaten by tumblr, and I couldn’t find an ask-option on your blog.

Yes, you may of course discuss my Tolkien art for your project. If you want to use images from my website, you’ll have to download and post them in your forum as direct linking won’t work.

Are the discussions going to be in Russian? Anyway, good luck with your project.

“The Fox”

Saw one today while cycling, reminded me of this scene.

The watercolour painting is inspired by Chapter 3 of The Lord of the Rings and was painted in 2004 (gosh, almost ten years ago). Must be the strangest and most curious scene in the entire book.
